Who’s the summit for?

Apparel Business Summit is for business owners in the apparel and textiles industry. It’s great for anyone who’s starting a new business and even owners who have been in business for a number of years and are looking to grow or wanting to pivot an existing business model. We provide the tools of the trade used by industry professionals to get you moving in the right direction.

What if I’m totally new to business and have no formal apparel training or experience?

The summit is the perfect place for you to start as the focus is on building a solid foundation for success, right from the get go.

When does registration begin for the summit?

Registration for Apparel Business Summit opens March 14, 2019. Stay tuned for early bird specials.

How do I access the presentations?

Once you have signed up for the summit, you will be able to login at www.apparelsummit.com, and click on the presentation you’d like to watch starting 12pm PST on March 28, 2019.

What format does the summit take?

Apparel Business Summit is an online conference made up of pre-recorded video presentations taught by different industry experts consisting of slide/ lecture and panel style discussions.

The videos are viewable at any time, and they can be paused, fast-forwarded, and re-watched as many times as you’d like.

How long is the summit?

Each presentation consists of 30- 45 minutes of video content. You will have all-access to the summit for 12 months. You can take the classes at your own pace, so the number of weeks it takes to complete the lessons will vary.

What is the investment?

The investment for Apparel Business Summit starts at $98 until 11:59pm PST on March 21st. After that date, the regular all-access price is $197 until registration closes on March 27th at 11:59pm PST.

Kathy McGown brings a wealth of experience with her, she is a former Apparel GM at Performance Sports Group, a Business Unit Director at Reebok CCM and Product Development Manager at Club Monaco. She is an apparel industry professional with over 30 years of experience across all facets of the business.

Her specialty is product and brand management, and her expertise includes the strategy and process behind product design and development, supply planning and go-to-market planning.

She’s worked with both fashion and athletic brands, specializing in entrepreneurial start-up businesses within larger brands. Her unique background results in having the benefit of big-brand experience along with an entrepreneurial mindset.

Taking special interest in Textile Waste, Irina founded FABCYCLE, a B2B collection service of textile waste to enable designers disrupt the cycle of garment production and transform waste into resources by finding innovative outlets to Reuse, Recycle and Recover Fabric Waste.

Prior to FABCYCLE, Irina has founded Frameworq, an event based initiative that brings together designers and consumers to explore the relationship we have with our clothes using a hands on experiential approach.

Frameworq has partnered with various organizations to fuse collaboration and curiosity into sustainability in apparel, hosting events such as design challenges, recurring fix it events, clothing swaps, exhibitions and fashion shows.

My name is Kaya Dorey and I am the Creator of NOVEL SUPPLY CO.

The turning point for me was when I realized that synthetic fabrics blends aren't biodegradable or recyclable. I thought to myself, why are we creating clothing that doesn't break down and making it out of chemicals and petroleum-based products when we wear it EVERY DAY?!

So, I went on a hunt to find clothing that was made from natural fabrics from brands that cared about the mark they left on the planet. I found myself wandering into stores that said "eco-friendly", "made locally" and "fair trade" but I could never find anything that suited my style.

I love comfortable basics, rad prints, minimalist design, relaxed fits, natural fabrics and non-toxic everything, which didn't exist in Vancouver. So, I decided to venture out on my own and create it myself. That's where the novel idea came from and, naturally, how I chose the name.

Stephanie Ostler

Stephanie Ostler is a prominent Vancouver entrepreneur and influencer. As a life long resident of the rainy city she launched her clothing company, Devil May Wear, straight out of high school immediately attracting international attention and sales.

By the time she was 30 she had 3 successful retail locations including Granville Island, Main Street, and Fan Tan Alley in Victoria. Devil May Wear has been voted Vancouver’s Best Local Designer Clothing Store. Working with mostly sustainable fabrics she produces her designs in Vancouver which she has sold in stores as far as Hong Kong and The Netherlands. Through Devil May Wear Stephanie supports high school students with valuable job experience and mentorship and has worked with teen mothers to provide the skills they need to go out into the workforce. She uses her entrepreneurial expertise to help launch startups, speaks about being a designer and entrepreneur at various events in order to inspire young people and the community at large, and runs small seminars about starting your own business.

In 2013 she did a TEDx talk called “The Luxury to Buy Better” where she spoke about buying sustainably. Stephanie is an active member of the University Womens Club of Vancouver, and is on the Executive Committee of the Granville Island Business Association where she is spearheading a plan to help engage Chinese visitors to Vancouver. She recently stepped down as Vice President of ArdorCare, a biomed provider of creative innovations supporting Canada’s aging population which plans to launch publicly in 2019. She is enthusiastic to create more opportunities for Vancouverites that can spill over and change the world. She is passionate about utilizing the skills of under-employed populations to give everyone a chance to contribute meaningfully and to educate young people about entrepreneurship, sustainability, ethical production and consumption to inspire the next generation not to wait for tomorrow but to bring a fresh prospective to the city today.
